Certamen is a Quiz-Bowl game dedicated to the study of Latin grammar, literature, mythology, history, and culture. Students must buzz in to answer a question, and, if correct, receive 2 bonus questions, allowing for a total score of 20 points per question. Three teams play each other at a time. Many tournaments have 20 question rounds, although some local tournaments have 12 question rounds. Throughout the tournament, teams play 3 rounds, occasionally a semi-final, and decide placings in a final round.
BLS attends many Certamen tournaments and competitions throughout the year, and are generally highly successful. We compete in competitions ranging from the regional level, such as our own tournament, to the national level, at locations such as Yale University and Harvard University.
